Chiropractic is a branch of the healing arts, and as a science is based on the premise that good health depends, in part, upon a normally functioning nervous system. Human body structures such as cells and organs function by impulses carried through nerves. When these nerve impulses travel uninterrupted, the organs and cells of the body are able to function normally. When there is an interference in the nerve supply, the organs and cells cannot function properly and a state of malfunction or a disease state may begin. The spinal cord has 31 pairs of spinal nerves which exit from the spinal column (or backbone). Although the spine offers support and protection for these very vital nerves, it can become misaligned and cause interference with the flow of nerve impulses mentioned earlier.
